Dr YP Peng graduated from the National University of Singapore Medical School in 1993 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Edinburgh in 1999. He obtained his specialist accreditation as a Hand Surgeon from the Ministry of Health (Singapore) in 2002. He went on to complete a Microsurgical Fellowship at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan and further training at Kleinert and Kutz Associates in Louisville, USA.
Upon his return, he set up the microsurgical training laboratory in the National University Hospital (NUH), Singapore and was the Clinical Director and Consultant in the Department of Hand & Reconstructive Microsurgery from 2006 – 2008. Dr Peng headed the department from 2009 – 2012 and under his headship, the Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery Center was established with 11 Hand Surgeons. Dr Peng’s clinical interests include hand and wrist trauma surgery, replantation and reconstructive microsurgery. He has published on new surgical flap techniques and taught flaps of the hand. His other interests cover degenerative hand conditions.
He continues outcome based clinical research believing good outcomes result in cost effective treatment. During his tenure in NUH, Dr Peng taught undergraduate and postgraduate students. He is frequently invited to speak locally and internationally. Dr Peng served on the Specialist Training Committee in Hand Surgery and the Residency Accreditation Committee at Ministry of Health. He was President of the Singapore Society for Surgery of the Hand from 2009 – 2011.
