Bio

Dr. Edward Cheong is a senior gastrointestinal surgeon with over a decade of experience providing laparoscopic GI surgery and endoscopic treatment for early upper GI cancer. He completed his training at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge and Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital in the UK. In 2008, Dr. Cheong did a fellowship in minimally invasive esophagectomy and gastric surgery with Professor James D. Luketich at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.


Prior to joining PanAsia Surgery, Dr. Cheong was a senior consultant at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital from 2010-2022. He introduced minimally invasive esophagectomy and Enhanced Recovery After Surgery. For 12 years, the hospital had the shortest length of stay for upper GI cancer surgery in the UK. Dr. Cheong co-directs minimally invasive gastrectomy and esophagectomy courses with Professors Richard van Hillegersberg and Jelle Ruurda. He also directs minimally invasive esophagectomy fellowships for the European Society of Disease of the Esophagus. Dr. Cheong received the Inaugural Dr. James D. Luketich International Award in 2017 and was recognized by the UK Care Quality Commission for driving NHS improvements. He frequently speaks internationally on minimally invasive esophagectomy and Enhanced Recovery After Surgery.
