Bio

Adj Associate Professor Dean Koh graduated from the National University of Singapore medical school and obtained his fellowship diplomas from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 1999. He completed advanced surgical training at Tan Tock Seng Hospital and the National University Hospital, acquiring the Joint Specialty Fellowship in General Surgery examination in 2003. He was admitted as a fellow to the Academy of Medicine (Surgery) that year.

Dr Koh received the Human Manpower Development Program scholarship from the Ministry of Health in 2003 and proceeded to successfully match in the US-accredited Colon and Rectal Surgery residency at Ferguson Clinic/Michigan State University. This fellowship allowed him to complete formal training certified by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery, encompassing colon and anorectal procedures for cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and functional conditions. With the impact of the COST study in the United States, he also received formal training in laparoscopic colon and rectal procedures. He has performed robotic assisted laparoscopic colorectal resections since 2008.

As recognition of his expertise in minimally invasive colorectal surgery, Dr Koh has been appointed Visiting Professor at IRCAD institutes in Strasbourg, France and Taiwan since 2014. He teaches Advanced Laparoscopic Colorectal and Robotic Colorectal courses. With his experience, he assumed positions as Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery in the Division of Colorectal Surgery in NUH and Fellowship Program Director for colorectal surgery. He has trained fellows from Southeast Asia and maintains links with regional surgeons.
