Dr Yam has special interests in restoring and improving function in paralysed or weak upper limb (nerve injuries, brachial plexus injury, Erb’s palsy, birth or obstetric brachial plexus injury, tetraplegia, cerebral palsy, stroke, etc), tendon transfers, nerve transfers, minimally invasive (endoscopic) treatment of nerve compression syndromes (carpal tunnel, cubital tunnel) and, hand injuries and infections.
Dr. Yam obtained his medical degree and masters from universities in Australia and Singapore. He trained in hand surgery in Singapore and the UK, specializing in peripheral nerve and brachial plexus surgery. He also trained in cerebral palsy, tetraplegia and brachial plexus reconstruction internationally. During his tenure at Singapore General Hospital, Dr Yam received several awards for quality and teaching.
He has published over 30 scientific articles and research projects in international journals and textbooks. Dr Yam has been invited to speak internationally on hand surgery and brachial plexus topics. He also regularly contributes to the largest online community of hand surgeons.
